Everything You Need to Know About The 2023 Met Gala— Including The Theme

The Met Gala is traditionally held every first Monday in May. This year, the 2023 Met Gala will be Monday, May 1st. Founded in 1948, by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, the Met Gala is a charity event that is now co-chaired by Vogue’s editor- in- chief, Anna Wintour. Held at Metropolitan Museum of Art–this year’s theme is, Karl Lagerfield: A Line of Beauty – to honor the late German designer who is known for his role as creative director at Chanel.

In pop culture, fashion enthusiasts share their views and thoughts on celebrity fashion from the red carpet that evening through social media commentary. There are plenty of memorable fashion moments from past Met Galas that broke the internet: Rihanna’s fan base, Navy, hailed her as Pope in 2018 for her look similar to the Pope himself when she attended the themed Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Whereas, Cardi B’s show-stopping train had all eyes on her at the 2019–Camp. Lastly, how could anyone forget when Kim Kardashian made headlines, wearing the infamous Marilyn Monroe; ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’ dress for Gilded Glamour last year that sparked controversy.

No one truly knows what goes on inside of the Met Gala, there is only speculation and hearsay. What we do know– from the outside looking in, about this exclusive invite only event, is the $30,000 ticket price that comes with entry! However, this year’s ticket price will be $50,000. Every year there is an artist who performs, a dinner— where tables can run between $200,000-$300,000 each, and of course an afterparty! No phones are allowed into the event, due to the event not being televised, after media coverage of the red carpet ceremony, it is closed to the public. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 5 - July 16, 2023.

Which celebrities are you most excited to see with this year’s theme?
